SaaS platforms

In short

A SaaS platform is software sold on subscription and used online by many customer businesses. PragaWeb designs and builds multi-tenant SaaS platforms, from the first MVP to a product ready to scale.

A SaaS (Software as a Service) platform is software that customers use online, in a browser or an app, paying a subscription rather than buying a licence. PragaWeb builds custom SaaS platforms for companies, start-ups and professionals who want to turn an idea or an in-house tool into a digital product sold to many customers.

We take you from the first version you put on the market to a stable, secure platform that grows with your user base, without having to start over at every step.

When building a SaaS makes sense

  • You built a tool for your own company and other businesses in your sector want to use it.
  • You know a niche market well and see a problem that existing software doesn’t solve.
  • You sell software installed on customers’ premises and want to move to a subscription model.
  • You want to offer customers a recurring digital service alongside your traditional ones.
  • You already have a prototype, but it can’t cope with more users or is hard to update.

What we build into a SaaS platform

  • Multi-tenant architecture: “multi-tenant” means one platform serves many customer companies, each with its own separate, protected data. It is the foundation of any sustainable SaaS.
  • Sign-up, login and roles: self-service or invite-only registration, user management for each company, different permissions for admins and staff, and two-factor authentication.
  • Plans and subscriptions: plans with different features and limits, free trials, recurring card payments through services such as Stripe, and automatic invoices and receipts.
  • Admin panel: your own area to see active customers, subscriptions, usage and support requests.
  • Onboarding: guided first steps that help a new customer set up their account and see the product’s value straight away.
  • Public APIs and integrations: let your customers connect the platform to their own software, making the product more useful.
  • Product metrics: indicators such as new sign-ups, active subscriptions and cancellations, shown in dedicated dashboards and reporting.
  • Multiple languages: an interface ready for several languages if you want to sell across Europe.

How we work

  1. Listening and validation: in online calls we clarify who the product is for, what problem it solves and which features are truly essential to launch.
  2. Defining the MVP: the MVP (minimum viable product) is the first version with only the essential features, put in front of real customers as early as possible. You get clear timings and costs for this phase and an outline of the next ones.
  3. Prototype and interface: we design the main screens and the user journey, so you can show them to prospective customers before development starts.
  4. Development in short releases: a working piece every few weeks, tested by you and, where possible, by a group of pilot users.
  5. Launch: go-live on cloud infrastructure with backups, monitoring and zero-downtime update procedures.
  6. Evolution: new features guided by usage data and customer feedback, with ongoing maintenance and support.

Technical choices

We choose widely used, well-documented technologies that other developers can also pick up: frameworks such as Laravel or Django on the server, React or Vue for the interface, and PostgreSQL as the database. The platform runs in the cloud, on European providers where data protection calls for it; if you’d rather hand over servers and backups, our cloud and managed hosting service takes care of them. Security, GDPR compliance and accessibility to WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines are built in from day one, not bolted on at the end. If the product needs to work well on phones, we consider a Progressive Web App that installs without the app stores.

Timings and costs: what they depend on

  • The scope of the MVP: this is the main factor. A well-defined MVP generally takes from a few weeks to a few months.
  • Billing rules: simple plans cost less than usage-based pricing, custom discounts and multi-currency invoicing.
  • Integrations: every connection with external software adds development and testing work.
  • Security and compliance requirements: sensitive data or regulated sectors call for extra safeguards.

Beyond development, factor in the running costs of hosting, payment services and maintenance: we set them out clearly in our proposal.

Why choose us

  • One point of contact: a single person looks after your product and knows every decision made.
  • The product is yours: you own the source code and the data. For a SaaS this is essential, including when you look for investors or partners.
  • Hands-on product experience: we develop software products of our own too, so we know the choices a SaaS has to make.
  • From code to market: once the product is ready, our marketing and communication team helps you get it known, with the same contact.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to build a SaaS platform?

It depends mainly on the scope of the MVP, your subscription rules and the integrations required. We recommend starting from a well-defined MVP: it costs less, reaches the market sooner and shows you which features really deserve investment.

What is an MVP and why start there?

An MVP is the smallest version of the product that solves customers’ main problem. It lets you check with real users that the idea works before investing in secondary features, cutting risk and waste.

Who owns the code of my SaaS platform?

You do. The source code and data remain yours, which also matters when you look for partners or investors who want to know who owns the technology.

How do you handle recurring payments?

We integrate reliable payment services such as Stripe, which handle cards, automatic renewals and payment reminders. The platform activates, pauses or updates subscriptions based on payments, with no manual work.

Is the platform GDPR compliant?

We design the platform with GDPR in mind from the start: separate data per customer, controlled access, European servers where needed and tools to export or delete data. The legal side should then be confirmed with your privacy adviser.
