Software modernisation

In short

Software modernisation updates ageing applications and moves them to the cloud without stopping work: your data and habits stay, while security, speed and connectivity improve.

Software modernisation is the work of bringing an ageing application that still matters to your business up to current technology and moving it onto secure, managed infrastructure, often in the cloud. It is for companies that rely on a long-standing management system or program and want to make it reliable, accessible remotely and able to connect to other systems, without stopping day-to-day work.

Modernising does not mean throwing everything away: it means keeping the data and logic that work and replacing whatever slows you down, exposes you to risk or holds back growth.

Why modernise business software

  • Security: unsupported operating systems and languages no longer receive security fixes.
  • Continuity: if the program depends on an old computer or a single person, any failure brings work to a halt.
  • Remote access: a web or cloud application can be used from several sites, from home or on the move.
  • Integrations: up-to-date software connects more easily to e-commerce, e-invoicing and other services.
  • Predictable costs: fewer emergency fixes and simpler maintenance.

Our software modernisation services

  • Legacy software migration: we rewrite or upgrade ageing programs, for example in Access, Visual Basic, Delphi or old PHP, transferring historical data and keeping the habits of the people who use them. “Legacy” means software still in use but built on technology that is no longer supported.
  • Cloud and managed hosting: we look after the servers, backups, updates and monitoring of your applications, preferably on European infrastructure.

Which service is right for you?

  • If the problem is the program itself, which is old, hard to change or tied to abandoned technology, start with legacy software migration.
  • If the software is fine but the infrastructure is fragile, with a server in the office, uncertain backups and no monitoring, you need cloud and managed hosting.
  • If both apply, we tackle them in order: first we secure your data and servers, then we modernise the application in phases.

How we work without stopping your business

  1. Listening: we see how the software is really used and which data and features are essential.
  2. Proposal: strategy, priorities, timing and clear costs, split into releasable phases.
  3. Short release cycles: trial migrations on copies of the data and, where possible, a period in which old and new systems run side by side.
  4. Evolution: support, maintenance and monitoring after the switch.

Why work with PragaWeb

  • One point of contact for analysis, development, migration and infrastructure.
  • Your code, data and accounts, fully documented: you will not end up tied to a single person again.
  • Accessibility and speed as standard in new interfaces, following WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines.
  • The full picture: modernised software can become a custom business management system and connect to your other tools through integrations, APIs and automation.

Do you have a program that still works but worries you? Contact us to assess the modernisation of your software together.

Services in this area

  • Legacy software migration

Legacy software migration moves an ageing program onto current technology, rewriting or upgrading it step by step, without losing historical data and keeping the habits of the people who use it every day.

  • Cloud and managed hosting

With cloud and managed hosting we look after the servers, backups, security updates and monitoring of your websites and software on European infrastructure: you use the applications, we keep them healthy.

Frequently asked questions

Does modernising mean rebuilding everything from scratch?

Not always. Sometimes updating the technology and infrastructure is enough; other times a rewrite makes more sense. After the review we propose the route with the best balance of cost, risk and benefit.

Will we have to stop working during modernisation?

Usually not. We work on copies, run trial migrations and agree the switch-over with you. Where possible, old and new systems run side by side for a while.

How much does software modernisation cost?

It depends on the size of the program, data quality, available documentation and the chosen strategy. You get a phased proposal with clear timing and costs for each phase.

Is the cloud safe for business data?

A properly managed cloud is often safer than a server in the office: off-site backups, regular updates and monitoring. We prefer data centres in the European Union to make GDPR compliance simpler.

Can I start with the cloud and modernise the software later?

Yes, and it is often a sensible choice: your data and servers are secured straight away, then the application is modernised in phases according to priorities and budget.
