Cloud and managed hosting
In short
With cloud and managed hosting we look after the servers, backups, security updates and monitoring of your websites and software on European infrastructure: you use the applications, we keep them healthy.
Cloud and managed hosting is a service in which PragaWeb takes care of the infrastructure your websites, management systems and applications run on: servers, backups, security updates and monitoring. It is for companies that have no in-house IT team, or would rather not spend time on it, but need software that is always available and data that is protected.
“Managed” means you do not just get space on a server, but someone who sets it up, checks it and steps in when needed. You keep using your applications; we make sure they stay fast, up to date and recoverable if something goes wrong.
When you need managed hosting
- Your management system runs on a server in the office that nobody really looks after.
- You are not sure when the last backup was made, or whether it can be restored.
- Your website or web app slows down at peak times.
- You find out a service is down because a customer tells you.
- You need secure access to your software from several sites or remotely.
- You want to know where your data physically sits, including for GDPR purposes.
What our cloud and managed hosting service includes
- Infrastructure design: we choose the type of server or cloud service that suits your load, budget and requirements, without oversizing.
- Cloud migration: we move websites, applications and databases from your current server to the new infrastructure, testing before the switch.
- Automatic backups: daily copies kept in a different location from the main server, with regular restore tests, because a backup is only worth something if it can be recovered.
- Security updates: operating system, core software and SSL certificates (which secure the https connection) kept up to date.
- Monitoring: we check availability, disk space and performance; if something is wrong we get an alert and act.
- Access protection: firewalls, key-based access, two-factor authentication and minimum permissions for every user.
- Staging environment: a separate copy of the application where updates and new features are checked before going live, with no risk for the people who use the system every day.
How we work
- Review: we take stock of what you have today: servers, domains, applications, databases and existing backups.
- Proposal: we set out the recommended infrastructure, the provider’s costs and the cost of our service, clearly separated.
- Preparation: we configure the new environments, security, backups and monitoring.
- Migration: we transfer the data with a full test run and choose the switch-over time to keep disruption to a minimum.
- Ongoing management: updates, checks and a periodic report on status and interventions.
Which cloud should you choose?
We work with reliable, widely used providers and choose according to the project: European providers such as Hetzner, OVHcloud or Aruba for dedicated and virtual servers with excellent value, or large platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud when specific services are needed. We prefer data centres in the European Union, which makes GDPR compliance simpler. We use Docker containers, which “package” an application with everything it needs to run, to keep environments repeatable and easy to move.
For backups and document storage we are also building Secure in Cloud, our product in development for encrypted backup and storage of business data.
Timing and costs: what they depend on
- the number of websites, applications and databases to manage;
- the resources needed (computing power, memory, storage) and expected traffic;
- how often backups run and how long they are kept;
- the level of support required, for example faster response times;
- how complex the migration from your current setup is.
The service usually involves a monthly or annual management fee, plus the cloud provider’s own costs. A simple migration typically takes a few days of work; more complex infrastructure takes a few weeks.
Why choose PragaWeb
- One point of contact who knows both the infrastructure and the software running on it.
- No lock-in: provider accounts can be in your company’s name and you receive credentials and documentation.
- The full picture: the cloud is often the natural next step after a legacy software migration, and for websites we pair it with our maintenance and support service.
- Privacy first: data in Europe, restricted access, encrypted backups.
