Secure in Cloud
Automatic, encrypted backups in an EU cloud, so you can recover even after ransomware.
In short
Secure in Cloud is the secure cloud backup and storage service PragaWeb is developing for SMEs and professionals. It is designed to keep automatic, encrypted and versioned copies of your files on EU-based servers and restore them in a few steps.
Planned features
-
Automatic backups
Scheduled copies of folders, computers and servers, with no manual steps.
-
Client-side encryption
End-to-end encryption is planned: data is encrypted on your device before it is sent to the cloud.
-
File versioning
Recover a document as it was on an earlier date, handy against mistakes and overwrites.
-
Immutable copies against ransomware
Copies that cannot be changed or deleted for a set period, designed to withstand an attack.
-
EU-based servers
Data stored in data centres within the EU, a choice intended to make GDPR compliance simpler.
-
Restore and secure sharing
Restore files or folders in a few steps and share documents with expiring links and permissions.
Who it is for
- SMEs without an in-house IT team
- Professional practices
- Freelancers and sole traders
- Businesses handling personal and confidential data
Secure in Cloud is the secure cloud backup and storage service PragaWeb is developing for small and medium-sized businesses and professionals. It is designed to back up your files automatically as encrypted copies on servers in the European Union, keep previous versions and let you restore them in a few steps, even after a ransomware attack.
Secure in Cloud is in development: the features described are the ones planned and may evolve based on feedback from early users.
What secure cloud backup is for
A failed disk, a stolen laptop, a file overwritten by mistake or ransomware, malicious software that encrypts your data and demands payment: for a business or professional practice, a few minutes can be enough to lose years of work. Often a backup exists, but it sits on an external drive permanently plugged into the same computer, or nobody has checked for months that it actually works.
Secure in Cloud is designed to make backup automatic, protected and verifiable. Planned features include:
- Automatic, scheduled backups of folders, computers and servers, with nothing to remember.
- Client-side encryption: data is encrypted on your device before it leaves, so it reaches the cloud already unreadable to anyone without the key.
- File versioning: recover a document as it was yesterday or last week.
- Immutable copies: copies that cannot be changed or deleted for a set period, not even by ransomware.
- Simple restore of a single file or entire folders.
- Secure sharing with expiring links and permissions, to send documents to clients and colleagues.
Who it is for
Secure in Cloud is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses without an in-house IT team, professional practices such as accountants, solicitors, engineering firms and medical practices that hold confidential data, and companies that want to put their backups in order with the GDPR, the EU data protection regulation, in mind.
How it works
- Choose what to protect: folders, computers, servers or shared drives.
- Set frequency and retention: how often to back up and how long to keep versions.
- Backups run on their own: data is encrypted on the device and sent to servers in the European Union.
- Get alerted if something goes wrong: a notification when a backup fails, so you do not find out just when you need the file.
- Restore when you need to: pick the file and the version date, then recover it.
The problem it solves
The 3-2-1 backup rule is a simple principle: keep at least 3 copies of your data, on 2 different types of media, with 1 off site. Many small businesses stop at the second copy, in the same office as the original data. Secure in Cloud is designed to be the missing off-site copy, encrypted and versioned.
EU-based servers, encryption and access control are intended to help you meet GDPR data security obligations; overall compliance also depends on your organisation’s own procedures. If you need something broader, such as managed servers and continuous monitoring, have a look at our cloud and managed hosting service. For websites, backups and updates are covered by our maintenance and support service.
